Heath, Walter Henry (Hy), composer, author; b. Oakville, Tenn., July 9, 1890. ASCAP 1941. Educ.: public schools, Tenn. Heifetz, Jascha, violinist, composer; b. Vilna, Russia, Feb. 2, 1901. To U.S. 1917; citizen 1925. ASCAP 1937. Educ: At three, began study violin with father. About a year later, admitted to Imperial Music School at Vilna. Before seven, played in recitals. At seven, debut at Kovno, Mendelssohn's Concerto. Until 1909, continued studies in Vilna, then entered St. Petersburg Cons, to study with Leopold Auer. While at conservatory often appeared in public. Appeared at Berlin under Nikisch with Philharmonic Society; series of concerts Vienna 1913. Toured Germany |
1914. With advent of World War I, toured Scandinavian countries and Russia. American debut, Oct. 27, 1917, U.S. and South America; also concert tours through England 1920, Australia 1921, Far East 1923. Gave a concert hall to Tel-Aviv, Palestine, 1926. Heim, Emery, composer, an anger, conductor; b. Budapest, Hungary, Feb. 22, 1906, d. Hollywood, Calif, Aug. 1, 1946. ASCAP 1946. To U.S. 1939; citizen 1943. Educ.: advanced musical studies, composition, conducting, Academy of Music, Budapest. Composed four musical comedies and scored many motion pictures in Hungary. Staff writer New York publishing house, one year, then 1942-44, U.S. Army, Special Service Office, Rank T/5. Scored motion pictures in Hollywood. Songs: "Time and Time Again"; "Don't Look at Me the Way You're Lookin'"; "My Ol' Ten Gallon Hat"; "Rather Do Without You, Baby"; "Down the Gypsv Trail"; "While the Music Plays On." In U.S. Army wrote official song ot 81st Division: "The Fighting Wildcat March"; also official song of 13th Armored Division: "Give It Your Best."
